Focus not on Time

  • An example of how to use the Pomodoro Technique for a common task. Let’s say you want to write a blog post about the benefits of meditation. Here is how you could apply the Pomodoro Technique:

  • Select your task: Write a blog post about meditation.

  • Set a 25-minute timer: Use a timer app, a website, or a physical timer to track your time.

  • Work on the task until the timer goes off: Focus on writing without distractions. You can use an outline, a mind map, or a free writing approach to generate ideas and content.

  • Take a 5-minute break: When the timer rings, stop writing and take a short break. You can stretch, drink some water, check your phone, or do anything that relaxes you.

  • Repeat this format: After your break, resume writing for another 25 minutes, followed by another 5-minute break. Keep track of how many Pomodoro's you complete.

  • Take a longer 15- to 30-minute break every four Pomodoro's: After you finish four Pomodoro's, reward yourself with a longer break. You can use this time to review your progress, edit your draft, or do something fun.
